The song “Edge of a Ledge” was written to express the notion that in life, each of us will go through something difficult. Collectively we face challenges too. I was thinking of the recent turmoil in society with people marching in the streets for justice and change, as I wrote the last verse. Verse two is influenced by the memory of my mother and single mothers in general who raise their children alone and struggle to make ends meet. The third verse addresses the difficulty one can have losing a job and adapting to a changing world. In regard to the musical arrangement and feel, my first concept for the song was for it to be in a traditional 12 bar, slow blues format. However it ended up with a funky beat driven by a guitar riff.
